RMS Travel Policy
Over the course of the year the Music Department has organized a variety of off campus opportunities to supplement the musical education of our students. Musician travel is intended to provide students with educational, musical, and cultural opportunities while at the same time developing team spirit and the social skills inherent in working within a group. While most travel opportunities will fall within the day time schedule attending local festivals, some overnight travel opportunities may be available and are an optional part of the music department program. Students who do not choose to participate in overnight travel will still receive a full, balanced musical education.
In order to be eligible to travel with the RMS music groups, students must maintain passing grades in all courses. Students must also demonstrate consistent social responsibility during the year at RMS in all classes. Students who receive suspensions could forfeit their right to travel with the music program. It is at the teacher’s discretion in consultation with administrators and parents/guardians to decide at any time if a student is not trustworthy enough to travel.
Parent permission forms along with teacher permission forms will be sent home prior to each trip. This acts as "ticket" on the bus for students to travel and ensures that students are aware of any work they will be missing and need to make up.
Overnight Senior Music Trips occur bi-annually for grade 7&8 students and average a cost between $500-700. Trip options will be discussed in the Spring prior to the year of the trip. Optional trips will occur within BC and possibly Alberta. The next Senior Music Trip is scheduled for the 2023-2024 school year. It is encouraged that students start fundraising when they enter the Music Program so they are prepared for their year's senior trip. See the Fundraising Policy for more details.
